Police are asking N.J. residents to report any suspicious phone calls after a caller attempted to extort $800 from a Fair Lawn man by claiming to have kidnapped his brother-in-law.

The FBI has been meeting with companies that deal in Internet communications, hoping to convince them to install a back door into their services for wiretapping, reports Declan McCullagh at CNET.

    A mass shooting occurred on Sunday near a mall in Wisconsin, WISN 12 News reports.

    The incident took place near Brookfield Square Mall in Brookfield, Wis.
